By consciously breathing into the belly and the pelvis, we begin to engage the capacities of the respiratory system more fully. We become calmer as our oxygen/carbon dioxide levels come into balance. We feel brighter and more embodied, as the lymphatic system is stimulated and the body rids itself of toxins. The relaxation response is activated. Heartbeat slows, blood pressure and muscle tension decrease, there is a reduction of stress hormones in the system. As the physiology relaxes, the inner dialogue quiets. Ahhhhh.
