Somatic sex educator Barnaby Barrett begins his provocative and subversive book Sexual Health and Erotic Freedom by
stating: "I believe passionately that humanity needs a more loving
world, and that a more loving world can only be achieved if we humans
are free to enjoy the pleasures of our bodies."
Barrett, a Harvard-trained psychoanalyst, offers insight into the
unconscious or unexamined patterns that inhibit our erotic freedom. He
explores the communal nature of eroticism, the importance of
embodiment, trauma, the incest taboo, the glories of sensuality,
successful sexual partnering, and Tantric practice.
"The erotic freedom of children is the foundation for adult sexual
health. Erotically free children will become sexually healthy adults;
whereas children, whose erotic potential is oppressed, will arrive in
adulthood suffering all the socially normative conditions of sensual
frustration and sexual conflict." (page 295)
In the final chapters of his book, Barrett restates one of his core
teachings: There is no difference between authentic spirituality and
sexuality. This book was written for your sexual health and erotic
freedom. Read it.
